Brunno Jahara Turns Salvaged Wood Into Vibrant Furniture Full of Character

Brizilian designer Brunno Jahara [2] recently finished his beautifully crafted line of vibrant furniture he’s calling “Neorustica [3].” A multi-faceted collection with compelling lines, Neorustica includes tables, benches and containers, with pieces varying in shades from antique white and brown, to a fuller spectrum of weathered hues reminiscent of a rainbow. Recalling the worn aesthetic of the shanty towns that dot Rio de Janeiro (also know as favelas [4]), the natural texture of salvaged wood [5] paired with the local color scheme embodies the unique spirit of Jahara’s homeland in which he sincerely pays homage.

To pay tribute to his roots, Jahara named each piece of furniture in his collection after actual favelas [7], including: Vidigal, Rocinha, Dona Marta, Tuiuti, Caricó, Vila Canoa, Uribu and Pavão. The durable and easy to clean laminate used for each piece has been made with recycled PET bottles [8], and all of the furniture is finished with non-toxic water based paints of either scratched white, scratched black or multi-colored hues.
