Buckeye Bullet Electric Racer Breaks EV Speed Record!

Electric cars don’t exactly have a reputation for being serious speed demons — but that could change as Ohio State ‘s lithium ion-powered Buckeye Bullet 2 just shattered the world land speed record for a battery-powered vehicle. The streamlined electric racer averaged 291 miles per hour in back-to-back tests this week in the Utah Salt Flats.
The Bullet, which was designed by students at Ohio State University , may not be coming to a dealership near you anytime soon, but its battery comes from A123 Systems, whose products will also power Chrysler cars and Eaton trucks. The Bullet’s body comes from EV manufacturer Venturi , which is based in Monaco and features models like the Fetish .
So who said EVs weren’t sexy?
