Christmas might be months away, but these otherworldly LED-lit trams offer cities around the world dazzling inspiration for the next holiday season. Each winter Budapest wraps its trams with 30,000 bright LED lights, turning the vehicles into mesmerizing sights on glittering winter evenings. These long exposure photos make the trams look like time-traveling vehicles and give a glimpse of the holiday atmosphere in the Hungarian capital.
In 2009 the Budapest Transport Company started a beautiful festive tradition of covering some of its trams in LEDs. But the beautiful appearance of these glittering vehicles is not the only thing that delights the locals. During the Christmas season, anyone with a regular ticket or public transport travel pass can ride the Christmas trams, which makes them a fun and budget-friendly way of getting around Budapest.
The LED-lit streetcars are a real treat for photographers-long exposure photographs catch the ethereal quality of the lights and show the vehicles as traces of blue-and-white sheen traveling through the snowbound city streets.
