Think your bicycle is lightweight? It’s probably a clunker compared to this $45,000 racing bike designed by Fairwheel Bikes in Tuscon, Arizona. The speedy bike weighs just 6 pounds–considerably less than the 15 pound bikes used by professional racers.

This bike could have been much lighter if it had a fixed gear. No levers, cables/housing, derailleurs, brake calipers, and cassette/freewheel. Nice and insanely expensive, but it could be lighter.
Yes, it could be lighter as a fixie, but it would be nowhere near as enjoyable to ride. I live in Colorado and would never want to climb in the Rockies with only one gear, even if it was lighter. Somehow, I could get by on a 6 lb “tank”
I’d be interested in the components used. Stem, seat, bars, gruppo.
Is the frame rated to the weight of the rider?
I question the six pounds claim. I’d like to see a breakdown of individual parts and their weight:
Front wheel + tire; rear wheel + tire + cogs; frameset, seatpost, saddle, brake levers, gear shifters, derailleurs front and rear, handlebars, stem, brake and gear cabling, chain, crankset, pedals.
If it’s less than 12 pounds, read to go, I’m still impressed.
Wheels weigh eight ounces each? Pull the other one!
