Carlos Zuniga Creates Amazing Portraits Using Recycled Telephone Books
Posted By Helen Morgan On May 22, 2012 @ 4:00 pm In Art,Design,Innovation,Recycled Materials | No Comments
Recycled telephone books become personal portraits in Carlos Zuniga's 'Next' series. In a practice that is at once ordered and methodical, the Chile-based artist puts black ink to the used indices to create facial details. Zuniga manages to create amazing an likeness to his muses, and the written information obscured to become part of a nose or eye works beautifully in tandem with the sections that remain revealed.
The neatness in which each line is blocked out by the ink hints at Zuniga’s former training as a designer. His attention to detail alters the recycled pages unrecognizably, and the books he uses are transformed from ho hum communication tools into elaborate works of art. The series has already been exhibited in galleries internationally.
