Pop sensation Cee Lo Green is truly living up to his name! The artist and his sister, Shedonna Alexander have joined forces to launch the GreenHouse Foundation in Atlanta. The foundation will help facilitate green education across Atlanta school districts by implementing fun and exciting hands-on projects for underserved students. Community gardens, clean-up rallies, and recycling competitions will inspire and empower underprivileged kids to care about and take care of their community and the environment!
The GreenHouse Foundation‘s first initiative, the Green Garden Education Program, will offer schools a chance to partner with the foundation in building schoolyard gardens for kids to tend themselves. Students will not only learn environmental responsibility and sustainable practices, but also basic science and math in a fun outdoor setting.
The GreenHouse foundation aims to start its do-gooding with local schools and then spread into the community. Student gardens will become mini farmers markets that feed and educate the public with fresh produce. Another project called “The School Waste Diversion” Initiative will encourage recycling with school-wide contests that will grow into larger community events like “Clean Atlanta Green Day”, where entire neighborhoods participate in beautifying the city. Cee Lo and Shedonna will also implement scholarships and green job training programs for high school students in future planning.
