Cheong-ah Hwang is a self-taught artist who creates intricate, meticulous sculptures from
paper. She revels in the details of everyday objects, and celebrates them through tiny folds, cuts, and crumples of paper. When she was a child, her parents owned a print store and she grew up with
paper all around her. And that’s how she got her start in paper sculpture early - by making paper toys to amuse herself.
Hwang is a wife and mother, originally from Seoul, and now based in Columbus. Her original works of art are very difficult to produce, and therefore expensive to purchase. But because she wanted more people to enjoy her art, she started a Kickstarter campaign to help produce print reproductions that are much more attainably-priced.
“I love paper so much!” exclaims Hwang in her Kickstarter video. Hwang has turned her love of paper into a beautiful art form, and she’s making sure that as many people as possible are able to enjoy it.
