CherryPal is taking cloud computing mainstream in a big way with a soon to be released green personal computer. This green PC comes in a small, affordable package weighing just 10.5 ounces and consuming no more than two watts of power. The triple-core processor only has one fifth of the components of traditional computers, boots-up in 20 seconds, and promises to be faster than Vista and mac’s OS-X.

Linutop looks like a better alternative, at least it is already available :

There are a number of this type of machine already in production – here’s another for Canadian and US customers:

These will not satisfy gamers, however – these are great replacements for browsing/email/word processing, but not high-resolution gaming. The energy-conscious gamer should use a console with an low-wattage monitor or television.
256GB of DDR2 DRAM? That’s quite a bit, is it supposed to be MB?
and don’t forget about fit-pc! it has 2 nics, great for a little firewall.

256GB of DDR2 DRAM? sign me up.
Great. Now put a screen on it.
Um, I’m sorry to say this, but the only good thing about this “personal computer” is that it uses 10W of power although considering it will require some unnamed server(s) to operate, that 10W could turn out to be only a fraction of the real energy usage.
Otherwise it’s an ridiculously underspecced and overpriced piece of garbage. Not to mention that since what you see on the picture is a render, it probably is and will always remain vaporware..
For $500-$600 you can buy a real computer that will actually run applications you want to use, like EeePC or a Mac Mini. Seriously, Inhabitat, you embarrass me.
You are better off buying a used laptop and putting linux on it. Better because:
Battery power, functional without net access, built in screen, and best of all no monthly fees or proprietary isp requirement.
This is interesting. I would like to know more.
The Transaction Proscessing Performance Council is building a benchmark to authentically measure the power consumption of a computer. Perhaps CherryPal should check it out.
I saw a even greener pc, you can check it out here http://www.greenworldcom.com
