Conergy Completes Massive 1.8 MW Solar Power Farm for Aqua Pennsylvania

In April, Aqua Pennsylvania Inc opened the Aqua Pickering Solar Farm at the company’ s Pickering water treatment facility. The Conergy-installed 1.8 MW solar electric energy system is the 8th largest solar farm in Pennsylvania, and it has transformed a 6.5-acre area into a highly productive clean energy generation plant while creating green jobs and alleviating strain on the PJM grid.
It’s estimated that Aqua Pennsylvania, Inc. (Aqua) will make an annual saving of $250,000 on its energy bill thanks to its new solar farm. By producing 2.3kWh of peak-time energy, the solar farm will power the treatment and transportation of water to approximately 500,000 residents of 27 municipalities in south-eastern Pennsylvania. The solar farm will not only power Aqua’s Pickering water treatment facility – it will also alleviate congestion on the PJM grid by reducing line losses.
“With improved state and local permitting processes and Conergy’s project expertise, this solution allows us to reap the economic and environmental benefits of renewable energy in very short order,” said Aqua America Chairman, President and CEO Nicholas DeBenedictis. “It’s a way for us to reinforce our commitment as environmental stewards, cut operating costs, create a hedge against rising energy costs and better serve our communities and investors.”
The solar farm was installed thanks to $1.5 million grant from the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) . It looks to be well worth the cost, with conservative estimations stating that the solar farm will generate approximately 50 thousand MWh of solar photovoltaic electricity over the project’s lifetime.
The solar farm will prevent more than 50,000 tons of carbon dioxide and related greenhouse gasses from entering Pennsylvania’s air. That is the equivalent of 170,070 gallons of gasoline, and it will reduce CO2 emissions by 2 million pounds each year, which is approximately the output of 297 cars.
Nice job Aqua – keep up the good work!
