Consumer Reports just released its latest list of the top cars currently on the market, and this year it named the Tesla Model S the Best Overall Car that you can buy. In order to qualify as a top pick a car must excel in three areas: performance, reliability and safety.

According to Consumer Reports, the Tesla Model S is “brimming with innovation” and it’s a “technological tour de force.” The publication gave the Tesla Model S high marks for its “blistering acceleration, razor-sharp handling, compliant ride, and versatile cabin.” Even with its near $100k price tag Consumer Reports says that the Tesla Model S is the easiest and most practical electric car to live with.

After Consumer Reports published the news Tesla’s share price skyrocketed to $259 a share – an increase of fifteen percent and a record high for the automaker.
