Contemporary Casa Box in Brazil Incorporates Transformed Excess Timber As Interior Furnishings

‘Casa Box’ is a stunning modern renovation of a caretaker’s house on a Brazilian island that sits overlooking the coastline like a contemporary cube. The house was constructed by Alan Chu Silveira e Cristiano Arns Kato Architectos, [5] who recycled leftover wood [6] from the scaffolding of the structure to build doors, stairs and windows. They also constructed furniture to spread throughout the house. The designers created an interesting contrast by combining the straight angular lines of the house with the transformed wooden elements, adding layers of depth to the otherwise simple white box.

It’s a pretty striking design, a concrete [7] cube form suspended over a stone wall to create a spacious area beneath. From the outside the residence resembles a simple single space, but it includes a living room, bathroom and kitchen as well. It looks out across the São Sebastião Channel [8] with the majority of the views from the upper floor that must be a pretty breathtaking sight.
