CounterEvolution’s Manhattan Table is Made from Reclaimed Bowling Alley Wood

Since it was launched in 2007, New York-based furniture company CounterEvolution [5] has carved out a unique niche, creating a line of innovative furniture from reclaimed wood [6] from bowling lanes. The company’s latest table, the Manhattan [7], was designed to fit into the pint-size apartments that are found in big cities. The sleek table should enable New Yorkers dine in style, while also reducing their carbon footprint.

Unlike CounterEvolution [9]’s other dining tables, the Manhattan maximizes legroom with a smaller table. The slatted grid of the plus-sign base allows for extra space. Should friends stop over, extra chairs can easily be pulled up without a corner leg bruising their knees. The base also reveals a decorative strip of exposed endgrain on the table’s surface, accentuating the vintage look of the table. Also visible on the tabletop is a little history of the wood [10]’s recreational past: Five inlayed wood arrows from the original bowling lane point to one side of the table — perhaps for the guest of honor?
The Manhattan table can be customized with 21 different colors, accommodating any eco-conscious [11] city-dweller’s apartment. Each stain, from port wine to turquoise, is non-toxic and VOC-free. Customers can also customize cut-out patterns on the table legs and surface inlays. Each reclaimed bowling lane heart pine table [12] is handmade in the NYC area and is available for white glove delivery. CounterEvolution [13] also makes bars, counters, consoles, and bed side tables from refinished reclaimed bowling alley wood [14].
