Crystal Palace: Slovenia’s Tallest Green-Roofed Skyscraper Features Sharp Energy Solutions

Slovenia has edged its way towards a more sustainable future with this incredible green-roofed skyscraper called the Kristalna Palača. Also known as the Crystal Palace, the country's tallest skyscraper features all kinds of designer stores and cutting-edge energy solutions that bring its energy consumption in line with some of the world's most advanced eco-projects. In addition to producing a lot of its own energy with rooftop solar panels, passive design and truly innovative cooling programs reduce the building's overall energy consumption. And hey, it's not bad looking either!
This skyscraper has a whopping 2500 square meters of green landscaping on its roof , as well as enough solar panels on the southern end to produce 82kWh of renewable energy. Most of the offices and shops have been placed on the northern end of the building to keep air-conditioning use to a minimum, while additional cooling is achieved with an innovative system that uses electricity derived from hydropower overnight, when its cheaper, to create ice in special containers that then cools off hot air the following day. Albeit not the greatest departure from the status quo, it’s great to see Slovenia taking such measurable steps away from fossil fuels!
