The Cupertino City Council’s green light should ensure the project to be open on time in 2016.

Jobs called the forthcoming extravagant headquarters the “best office building in the world.” Although his vision won’t be realized until 2016, 14,000 Apple employees will enjoy state of the art fitness centers, auditoriums, cafeterias, and green space each day at work. Covering a sprawling 2.8 million square feet, the circular building will be enclosed in concave glass panes from Germany that will flood the offices with natural light while also giving employees closeup, tranquil views of the lushly planted trees outside.

The $5 billion complex will hug a circular tree filled courtyard interior that will be connected to pedestrian and bike pathways throughout the campus. The sustainable design will be powered by a photovoltaic array that will line the roof of the space ship- shaped building, in addition to other clean technologies that Jobs requested from Foster + Partners design.
