When something as devastating as a hurricane [2] impacts your life, it can shatter your outlook on the world. Inspired by the broken glass surrounding his home after Hurricane Andrew in 1992, New York artist Daniel Arsham [3] has created three new figurative sculptures. Covered in shards of cast off glass, the piece also references his previous adventures in upcycling where the artist collected 25,000 defunct ping-pong balls [4] to cover the walls of his tiny NYC apartment.

Designer Daniel Arsham, co-creator of design firm Snarkitecture [6], is foraying once again into the world of figurative art. His newest sculptures are each pensive representations of the human form. Encrusted in glittering, shining glass, the work seems to speak of the fragile nature of life, carrying along the fragmented elements of lives disrupted. Stuck to the bodies like skin, the destroyed windows of homes after a storm seem especially poignant for an artist that has experienced two massive hurricanes in his lifetime.

Each statue will be displayed at the Pippy Houldsworth Gallery [7] in London through November 17, 2012.
