Daphne is a Glowing Paper Sculpture Made of Hundreds of Hollow Panels in Greece
The self-standing Daphne installation is comprised of hundreds of interlocking hollow paper panels that seem to grow from the stairs of the Santorini tunnel to the tunnel walls and roof until it eventually colonizes the entire interior. Part of the Santorini Biennale of Arts that lasts until the end of September, 2012, the sculpture evolves in accordance with environmental conditions.
As visitors walk from Santorini Square to the castle ruins, their reverie is interrupted by the paper sculpture, which morphs and ages in accordance with the humidity and particles acting upon it in the tunnel. And after dark, energy-efficient LED lights lend an even eerier aspect to the space. We’re not 100% certain where or how the materials were sourced, but 24° Studio is typically quite thoughtful about environmental concerns. Stop by for a peak if you can.
