Have you ever sat back and been entertained by different clouds floating by on a lazy day? Then you're sure to be enchanted by these charming cloud lamps we came upon at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair during New York Design Week. Using the traditional Japanese washi paper for the shade, DCS Corp designed the cute fixtures as enjoyable alternatives to boring table lamps.

To sculpt the three-dimensional structures the designers used Japanese washi paper, which is commonly made using fibers from the bark of the gampi tree, the mitsumata shrub, or the paper mulberry, but can also can be made using bamboo, hemp, rice, or even wheat. The lower section of the fixture is made from acrylic and held up with 36 pieces of metal rod. While the silver rain cloud is made of transparent paper, the golden rain cloud is covered in orange film and made with brass rods.

These aren’t the first cloud-inspired lamps made out of paper to captivate us at Inhabitat, but when we came across them this year we were certainly impressed. Light and airy, these unique designs illuminate the room with their dramatic yet simultaneously gentle forms.
