Del Popolo is a Mobile Neapolitan Pizza Joint in a Recycled Shipping Container!

We wouldn't mind having one of Del Popolo's ^[6] hot, fresh Neapolitan pizzas baked in an 800 degree oven right about now, especially since it is delivered from a recycled shipping container ^[7] on wheels! San Francisco Noe Valley resident Jon Darsky left his job as a Flour + Water ^[8] pizzaiolo in order to open up his own joint - and he did it in exceptional style. With help from four designers, Darsky gutted a 20-foot shipping container and fitted it on a large truck that he drives around the streets of San Francisco.

Darsky wanted customers to be able to see the authentic 5,000 pound wood-fired oven brought all the way from Naples, so he tore down one whole side of the shipping container ^[9] and fitted it with framed glass doors. And we have to say, this combined with the black paint and oven gives the roaming pizzeria incomparable style.

The wood-fired oven ^[10] is on the second level and – reaching temperatures of 800 degrees – cooks up delicious pies in 60 seconds flat. These are then delivered to the cashier on the lower level via a special rack. But we have to warn you: all of this goodness doesn’t come cheap. Del Popolo cost a whopping $180,000 to build, so Darksy will be flipping pies for a long time to pay it off!
