The Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute and Make It Right are challenging manufacturers to design a safe and healthy product for the affordable housing market that is created for re-use. Winning products will excel in criteria outlined in the Cradle to Cradle Certified Products Program and align with Make It Right’s mission “To build safe Cradle to Cradle inspired homes, buildings, and communities for people in need.” They are asking innovators to rethink common materials — such as PVC — and come up with revolutionary new products that can meet or beat conventional ones on the basis of price, performance, availability and “eco-effectiveness”. Up to twenty finalists will receive two months of media exposure and promotion for their products leading up to the announcement of the winners. Three winning products will be announced at Greenbuild 2013 and will share $250,000 in prize money. Applications are due June 30, 2013.
