Foster + Partners recently won a prestigious competition to design Mexico City’s new international airport, but have you ever wondered about the fate of the older and soon-to-be obsolete International Airport Benito Juarez? Arquine International Design and Architecture Magazine launched an international design competition to answer this very question. Titled the Eastern Metropolitan Green Lung Competition, this contest seeks innovative proposals that explore how the centrally located 746-acre space can be transformed into a green urban zone and economic catalyst for the city. The competition is open to architects and architecture students all over the world. Registration opens October 1, 2014 and ends February 17, 2015. A total of $190,000 MXN in prize money will be divided amongst the top three winners.

AWARD/PRIZE

The prizes will be the following:

• 1st Prize: $100,000.- MXN and a collection of Arquine Books.

• 2nd Prize: $60,000.- MXN and a collection of Arquine Books.

• 3rd Prize: $30,000.- MXN and a collection of Arquine Books.

• Honorable mentions: The Jury is allowed to give out four mentions to four ! projects that they feel deserve this recognition.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

The invitation is open to architects and architecture students all over the world. Teams, collective and individual participants are welcome. The groups may incorporate professionals or students from other disciplines so long as the team leader or representative is an architect or architecture student.
