Zaha Hadid and designer Gareth Neal collaborated to create these amazing wooden vases. The designs, which reflect Hadid's signature aesthetics, combine experimental shapes with functional design and were digitally fabricated using Hadid studio's advanced computer modelling software.
The idea for the collaboration between Neal and the famous architect originated from the Wish List of the American Hardwood Export Council and Benchmark Furniture, which envisioned pairing designers and architects in order to create innovative designs and projects. The sculptural vases play with the idea of traditional manufacturing processes and simulate hand-making through digital imitation.
The design duo started with the conventional form of the vessel and drastically changed its appearance by mimicking traditional manufacturing techniques. A robotic arm made the forms, adding to the ambiguity of the idea of the handmade.
