Divine Jaffa Apartment in Israel Restores Vaulted Walls to Their Former Glory

This divine apartment in Israel is a paragon of enlightened renovation. Like many Israeli designers ^[6] before him, Pitsou Kedem ^[7] has an incredible knack for fusing the old with the new without infringing on the former's unique character. Previously a dense stone building just south of Tel Aviv, the 105 m2 loft's spacious interior has been revealed by removing a couple of walls, while generous views of the Mediterranean Sea were captured by careful positioning of large windows.

Preserving the historical integrity of the Jaffa apartment was essential, so great care was taken to maintain both the exterior and interior stone. To give the apartment a more modern flair, stainless steel, iron and Corian were incorporated into the building’s partitions and openings, as well as in the furniture. Lovely black-rimmed windows let in all kinds of natural light ^[9], which combined with the sandstone’s superior thermal property ^[10] gives this program that final sustainable edge!
