DIY: Six Homemade Sweet Treats for Your Valentine
Heart Shaped Toaster Pastries
Kids and adults will love to sit down to these homemade heart shaped toaster pastries to start off their Valentine’s Day. Just cut 2 hearts out of a rolled out, organic, pre-prepared pie crust dough, and whisk 1 egg with 1 tsp water for “glue.” Spread strawberry jam on one side, leaving enough room to brush the egg around the edge, then place the second heart on top. Press edges with a fork and bake on 400 degrees for 15 minutes. Cool and serve, or ice and decorate – its up to you!
Valentine Whoopie Pies
Legend has it that when Pennsylvania Amish women would pack whoopie pies in their husbands’ lunch pails, the farmers would yell “WHOOPIE!” when they found them at lunchtime. Make your sweet scream in delight with your own version of these cake sandwiches in your favorite flavor. Don’t forget to add some red sugar to make it festive!
Delight your coworkers and let them stir a little love in their morning coffee with these super-easy to make chocolate spoons. Just arrange the spoons on a cookie sheet, and microwave your favorite Fair Trade chocolate in a bowl. Pour the melty chocolate into a plastic baggie and snip off the corner. Squeeze the chocolate into each spoon, then place in the refrigerator for several hours to harden.
Chocolate Covered Apple
The teacher in your life needs love too! Show your appreciation with a yummy chocolate covered apple. After sticking a dowel rod into your apple, roll it around in your favorite melted chocolate. Wait 60 seconds for the chocolate to set, then roll the apple for a second time into mini candy hearts, red sprinkles or colored sugar. Let the apple cool in the refrigerator before wrapping it up!
With all the sweets happening all day, why not top it off with a special adult drink? The Agave Kiss is rich, out of the ordinary and sweet that makes a perfect dessert drink for your love. In a cocktail shaker, combine 2 ounces Herradura Tequila Silver, 1 ounce white crème de cacao, 1 ounce cream or soy milk (try coconut milk too!), ½ ounce Chambord and ice. Pour in a chilled glass and complete the romance with raspberries and shaved white chocolate garnish!
