Despite opposition from the world’s most outspoken billionaire [3], an offshore wind farm near Aberdeen [4] has been given the green light by the Scottish government. The 11-turbine project will overlook the North Sea, not far from Trump’s International Golf Resort. The billionaire claims that the green project will obstruct the views from his billion-dollar resort, potentially costing him millions.

Despite Trump’s litigious threats, the Scottish government has granted a go for the $350 million wind farm [6]. The new project will be able to generate 100 megawatts of power, the equivalent of the energy needs of half of Aberdeen’s homes. The wind farm will also serve as a model for future green projects for the UK, as well as a research station to advance wind power technology.

Although the entire wind farm will only include 11 turbines, Trump and his lawyers claim that it was have catastrophic affects on his resort, as well as the entire Scottish tourism industry as a whole. Trump claims that the turbines [7], which will range in heights and designs, will be so unsightly, that his 18-hole golf course will suffer due to lack of tourists.

Many supporters of Trump’s development of the Trump International Golf Resort are also backers of the wind power project, including engineering millionaire Sir Ian Wood, Robert Gordon University and Aberdeenshire council. Trump’s opposition to the wind project caused him to lose their support. The project will help to put Scotland in the forefront of the off-shore wind power industry, helping it to gain a permanent and important source for green and sustainable power.
