Most people have a flashlight sitting in a drawer somewhere for use in an emergency… but wouldn’t it be cool if it could serve another purpose instead of standing idly by? Well that’s exactly what this transforming flashlight [2] by designer Jia Dai does — it split opens to become a lamp! The only foreseeable problem is that if you’re constantly using it as a lamp, you might find yourself out of juice when you really need it as a flashlight, but the designer thought of that too — since the device is solar-powered [3], it constantly recharges in the sun.
