Gallery: Dwell Houses We Love – ...

Parlee/Hegland

Although definitely on the larger side, the Parlee/Hegland home is built with a sensitivity to its environment, and features a passive design allowing for natural light to filter in through high staggered windows. The home is naturally ventilated through operable windows. Outside the home is landscaped with buffalo grass, live oaks, and terraces of indigenous plants.

All of the houses are, of course, stunning, but you know how we are – we’re partial to eco-friendly materials, energy efficiency, natural daylighting and renewable energy. We found six houses that piqued our interest, many of which had a strong focus on green interiors and daylighting. The grand-prize winner will be announced at Dwell on Design in Los Angeles this summer, and the home will also be featured in the 10th Anniversary Issue! Good luck in the competition and we can’t wait to see who wins!
