The Eames, those Iconic mid-century modernists, were incredible innovators and produced many designs that still resonate strongly today. We’ve been discussing the pros and cons of their classic Eames RAR Rocker over at our new baby & kids site, Inhabitots. Stylish rocking chairs are hard to come by, and the Eames rocker is one of the few mid-century modern rocking chairs that is still in production and readily available, making it particularly appealing for design-loving moms. Produced by Herman Miller, the new Eames Rocker is made from recycled polypropelyne with a steel frame, while the original version (and knockoffs) in fiberglass are also fairly easy to find at vintage modern furniture shops.

Eames originals are very rare to find and highly expensive. In the other hand Eames reproduction furniture is widely sold online with a massive competition. The real problem is to find a high quality reproduction in material, design and craftsmanship without paying arm and leg for the item or the hidden charges such as VAT or high shipping cost. Some of Eames,s reproductions are highly manufactured to the original style and some manufacturers will do and sell anything ,just to make money. So be aware.

How I love this chair. I got an Eames lounge chair and ottoman at Officedesigns.com and its now the main attraction of my living room. The website is truly a gem; wonderful service and personel. The chair is beautiful and now I think I’ve caught the Eames bug; my next purchase? That chair, right there.
