Gallery: Eco-friendly Biodegradable Doggy Poop Bags

We know you’re a good Samaritan who curbs their dog whenever he or she does its – ahem – business. But how do you go about cleaning up you furry friend’s unpleasant trail? If you’re one of the many who’ve been doing a scoop and sack with those old plastic bags, keep in mind that they’ll most likely sit in an overflowing landfill for hundreds of years. So do future pups an eco-friendly favor and opt for these biodegradable dog poop bags from Holstee instead! Made with renewable resources like corn, this 100% biodegradable bag will decompose as quickly as an apple. Watch a video review of the bag after the jump (don’t worry, you won’t be grossed out!)

Compostable items are preferable over biodegradable ones. By definition, biodegradable items, unlike compostables, do not have a timeline for decomposition and can contain toxins. Those products can also contain up to 97% plastic and still be called biodegradable, so long as they have a little bit of organic material in them that microorganisms can break down. Some Biodegradable products are even coated with chemicals that catalyze the breakdown of the plastics present into smaller plastic pieces that are “indistinguishable in soil.” You can’t see the plastic anymore, but it’s still there releasing its toxins. Compostable products like poop bags are available. Compostable over biodegradable labels! : )
