Designs ranged from foot massaging floor mats to innovative takes on everyday accessories, like a line of brightly colored glowing handbags. By recycling colorful plastic containers, Micio Vinicio creates waterproof handbags with an edge.
Here at Inhabitat, we have seen many examples of recycled cardboard furniture, but this armchair by Alessandra Fiordaliso shows how by layering the paper-based material and coating it with PVA glue anyone could create strong and durable DIY seat. If the idea of making a cardboard sofa is too big for a first DIY project, why don’t you try and make cute and curious animals, like the fantastic layered owls also on display.
The winning design of the Green Furniture Awards 2011, the T-shirt chair by Maria Westerberg, was also at the show. Made from forty old T-shirts woven together, this seat is comfy, colorful and also full of memories, as the t-shirts all came from friends of the designer. Inspired by a recycled aluminum pull rings bag she bought on a holiday trip in Brazil, Italian designer Luisa Scomazzoni, from Dalaleo, creates fantastic metallic items like textured handbags and purses.
Other creations include a beautiful pair of high heels made from recyclable materials and an ancient Japanese kimono fabric, that mix oriental aesthetics with western style. If you have been on heels all day, the best reward is a foot massage, and Ecopink shows just the solution: a massaging mat made from repurposed glass marbles.
Located at the Hub King’s Cross, the Ecopink exhibition really knows what women want: good and gorgeous designs.
