Aqua Creation’s [1] mesmerizing silk lamps [2] really blew us away at this year’s New York Design Week [3]. Their “Gail” collection is a series of beautiful suspended mobiles made using hand-dyed and treated crushed silk. The delicate material is drawn over black metal frames and illuminated from within with an energy-efficient CFL bulb, creating a graceful structure.

Varying in both color and shape, the lamps are hung together to create an airy kinetic mobile that gently sways while suspended from the ceiling. The subtle forms of the mobiles echo the soft curves of an exotic flower or an undersea creature – highly unusual yet elegant. A highly stylized response to organic inspiration, the sculptural lamps [4] emitting a low atmospheric glow that lends an ethereal quality to their form.
