Gallery: Energy-Generating Mushrooms Provide Power, Water, and Shelter ...

Artist and designer Tobias Revell has imagined a future in which the massive city of New Mumbai is powered by energy-generating mushrooms! In his sci-fi "documentary" Revell explains how a futuristic synthetic biology research lab discovers their fungi samples have been stolen by Indian thieves who have quickly learned to adapt the technology for their personal and community needs. Cool concept but the glaring mistake is Artist Conk thriving on concrete. This mushrooms, to make a plant biology analogy; These are not perrenials, they are self-seeding annuals. To accomplish something like this, well, I must say it would look very different; You would need a tree farm ( aka a FOREST) that has inoculated living trees and hoist them on to a building. The more and more that I revel in the naivite of this design the more and more I cannot accept that it will ever work. Lets just re-grow our forests and live more harmoniously within nature rather than photoshopping it onto a building and calling it a TED talk.

P.s. Artist conk will never grow to this size. Please google search “prototaxons” and keep thinking…

Don’t mushrooms barely need any light at all, though, thus often being white?
