U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced last Friday that more than 1,800 electric vehicle charging stations have now been installed due to the Recovery Act. Four hundred million dollars was allocated to the Transportation Electrification Initiative, which invested in eight projects that comprised the world’s largest electric vehicle demonstration.
The investment is expected to result in more than 13,000 plug-in vehicles and 22,000 charging stations being deployed across the U.S. by the end of 2013. Such a significant push toward electrification could help EVs finally take off, as gas rises again toward $5 per gallon.
