The EPA just declared the Mitsubishi i EV to be the most efficient car in the U.S., with a 126 miles per gallon equivalent rating in the city and 99 mpge on the highway. That adds up to 112 mpge, which is better than Nissan's LEAF and outstrips all extended-range EVs with backup engines.
More than 17,000 vehicles with technology like the Mitsubishi i have already sold outside the U.S., and Mitsubishi is hoping this news will push the i’s sales forward in the States as well. “We are very pleased to see that the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy have rated the 2012 Mitsubishi i as the top fuel economy leader in its annual Fuel Economy Guide,” said Mitsubishi Motors North America CEO Yoichi Yokozawa.

Tk, didn’t you get the memo. Being green means having to own ugly cars that are so tiny, you cannot fit a family of four and groceries at the same time. It also means owning a vehicle with a limited range, limiting you do your own city. Forget cross-country car trips on these EVs.
Instead of most fuel efficient they might have meant ugliest.
