Recently we covered a variety of temporary structures that are designed to serve a brief artistic purpose. In the spirit of all things sustainable, however, these structures have been built for re-use, just like the All Soul’s Day pavilion. Fit to hold 40 people and comprised of little more than two large picnic tables and a wood-fired stove, the temporary pavilion also features an unusual fabric roof. Illuminated at night and all puffed up with smoke, the hovering shelter creates the feeling that peaceful souls are hanging out nearby as their loved ones honor them. And thanks to the thought given to sustainable design, the pavilion can be used over and over again.

While celebrating All Souls Day, people roast chestnuts and jacket potatoes in a wood-fired stove.

The smoke created as a by-product is then harvested to blow up the roof.

Combined with picnic tables and the stove, the pavilion can accommodate up to 40 people.

Like many other projects featured on Inhabitat, the floating roof can be reused when it has served its useful purpose here.

While uniquely poised to generate an ephemeral feeling that peaceful souls are hovering nearby, this roof can be so much more.
