Formed in 1972, SOCO is a nonprofit organization with the mission of establishing an equal society and building a strong power base for the people of Hong Kong in the face of widening disparity between the economic classes and an increasingly restrictive political arena. Through this exhibit, the organization hopes to show local governments in Hong Kong [2] the reality of the housing conditions of the poor. According to SOCO, “By using the voice of the photos, the exhibition unveils the dark side of the metropolis and shows the toughness of the underprivileged in urban slums.”

The exhibit is part of ArtWalk [3], an annual charity event held in art galleries across Hong Kong. Since ArtWalk first started in 2001, over HK$5million have been raised for Hong Kong charities.
