Gummies aren’t just for bears and worms anymore. Tokyo’s FabCafe [2] in Shibuya offers customers the chance to create a 3D-printed gummy version of themselves! Using the café’s 3D body scanner [3], customers can make colorful gummies [4] of their bodies for White Day [5]—a Japanese follow-up to Valentine’s Day.

FabCafe, a coffee shop and 3D printing hub, originally offered female customers the chance to have their faces scanned [7] and printed into a mold to be cast in chocolate for Valentines’ Day. For White Day, the personalized 3D-printed gift trend continued, but now the body scanner can be used to create a head-to-toe scan of each customer.

For just 7,000 yen (the equivalent of about $60 USD), customers can take part in a two-part workshop with a detailed 3D scan of their entire bodies. FabCafe then 3D prints [8] the files into detailed plastic molds of each customer. Then, people can pour liquid jelly candy into their own molds, making a colorful collection of tasty miniature versions of themselves.

The 3D printing café offers guests a unique service of 3D scanning and printing, all while enjoying a casual cup of coffee while they wait. Aside from personalized gummy people and chocolate faces, the 3D printer has also offered up workshops in 3D printed ornaments [9], jewelry, clothing and toys.
