Gallery: FABRICA Repurposes Found Materials into High Quality, Cheerful...

Nobody who takes a first glance at FABRICA's high quality furnishings would think "these are repurposed," but the Guatemalan studio works almost exclusively with recycled materials. We stopped by their booth at Wanted Design during New York Design Week and we were amazed at the designers' handcrafted designs, which combine recycled materials with the colorful, playful spirit of Guatemala City. Hit the jump and browse through our gallery to see a few of our favorite pieces.

When FABRICA does use new materials for their chairs, tables and other interiors, they carefully purchase only FSC-certified woods that have the smallest environmental impact. Otherwise, they find a use for everything from recycled rubber and aluminum to Guatemalan horse reins, old coffee sacks and even the metal workings of soccer balls.

Some of our favorite designs include the Vandergan chair series wrapped in everything from organic cotton to coffee sacks, and the awesome street ball seats made with football springs and puffy fabrics. We are also partial to the rope chair and the whimsical candle holders made with beer and soda pop cans. Check out the rest of our New York Design Week and ICFF coverage for a look at even more spectacular eco designs.
