Mark Zuckerberg is not afraid to take on a new challenge. In fact, every year he establishes a new one to sharpen his personal discipline. After mobilizing more than 200 million people on facebook, in 2009 he wore a tie every day (somewhat of an anti-climax), and set out to learn Chinese in 2010. In 2011, he vows to only eat meat from animals that he kills with his own two hands. Step in to find out why this clean-shaven Harvard dropout is mostly a vegetarian these days.
Many people are happy to believe their meat comes from the supermarket shelves, preferring to numb out that animal’s bloody history. But Zuckerberg told Fortune magazine that he finds that attitude irresponsible. As part of his 2011 pledge to be more thankful for the food he consumes each day, the young media mogul has decided to kill the animals he wants to eat.
With celebrity chef Jesse Cool’s guidance, Zuckerberg learned how to cut a goat’s throat with a knife, the most humane method of slaughter. Once he proudly posted on his private facebook page that he had killed “a pig and a goat” that day. His next challenge? Hunting.

anybody can kill an animal, i’ve done it myself, big deal. he can make a big deal of it when he RAISES a pig or goat from birth, and THEN has to kill it to eat it. i don’t mean hiring somebody to do it, either, but actually doing all the work himself. i know i couldn’t do it. it’s just as easy to distance yourself when you can just see it as meat as it is in the store.
I agree with him on this point. People are much too distanced from what meat is. I do not agree with PETA or vegans that meat is murder (it’s how nature works). But probably 80% of people who eat meat see no connection between meat and living animals.
It’s funny how every few years a new billionaire is reviled. I think too many people want to blame someone (Gates was monopolizing the browsers to “control” how we see the internet, blah, blah, blah).
The guy is a self made billionaire, I respect anyone that is willing to kill what they eat. Better than the oh so many out there that don’t eat what they kill.
regardless of how you perceive his character, he’s bringing attention to a very important issue. the publicity for his efforts might inspire others to be a bit more thoughtful as well. good for him.
why does it matter if he was a harvard dropout? i dont understand the need to mention it in every article written about him.
Finally people are thinking about the animal’s!!!!! that’s what people did in the old day’s and I think he is right! if you can’t kill the animal yourself then don’t eat it! and don’t pay people to do it for u! Because those people are cruley killing them! and I’m a Proud Vegan of 10 year’s!!!!! Go Mark!! Finally someone with Brain’s!!!! to not be selfish!
You’d think he’d buy a pro sports franchise and transform it into a championship… or learn to space walk… or bridge cultures and lead global social reform… but instead he’s wearing ties and slaughtering goats for food. He can do anything and he sets nothing challenges for himself. Not the big thinker of our time. Does not speak well for Harvard that they accepted him. Aptitude and potential do not go hand in hand.
I knew that boy was a little strange
The man is evil. He buys and sells your private information and is laughing all the way to the bank. But, good for him in choosing to only eat meat he has killed himself. That is a good way of insuring a good level of quality, hunting down a cow in a field doesn’t seem very challenging.
May be he’s assuaging his guilt for whoring out the private information of those hundreds of millions of customers. Zuckerberg’s a leech; even comparing him with real visionaries like Gates and Jobs is blasphemy.
