Gallery: Far Coast Furniture Raises Aw...

Students at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design (ECUAD) designed these pieces of beautiful furniture for Far Coast Coffee’s (Coke’s coffee brand) social areas at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. The furniture is made entirely out of blue pine wood in an attempt to raise awareness about the mountain pine beetle’s devastating effect on the pine industry.

ECUAD’s website explains, “The asymmetrical design of the chairs allows for two versions (left and right hand version) with only a minimal increase in manufacturing costs. The unique pattern also gives a more memorable experience to its users while maximizing arrangements when combined with multiple pieces.” The furniture is placed throughout the Media Center and Athlete’s Village at the Olympic games. We can just imagine Lindsay Vonn and Apolo Ohno relaxing on these chairs between races!
