Thanks to a $7,000 cash injection from Kickstarter [6] and a joint effort between Sims Recycling Solutions [7], Picture House Hackney [8], and the event´s organizers, Films on Fridges [3] is now a reality. The sold-out event, which lasted for several weeks this summer, commented on our throwaway culture by reclaiming a tremendous amount of scrap material. Discarded fridges were used to construct just about everything at this fantastic pop-up cinema [9], and Inhabitat was there to bring you exclusive photos.

A pop-up bar sold drinks, sweet and salty popcorn, and even loaned woolly blankets for viewers to get cozy under the stars. The bar´s shelves were creatively constructed with fridges parts, making good use of the unwanted appliances. Additional furnishings made from fridge [10] doors and recycled wood were scattered throughout the industrial site [11], providing space for spectators to have a pre-film chat while enjoying a cold drink.

Even the screen was made from fridge parts, which were randomly assembled into a temporary scaffolding structure. We’d love to see Films on Fridges [3] grow and return to London next summer, but for now we were happy to hear that the 20 foot high mountain is currently being recycled outside London [12].
