Gallery: FILTER is an Elegant Zero-Waste, Flat-Pack Lamp by Bijl Archit...

Bijl Architecture Studio’s FILTER light is an intelligent flat-pack lamp design developed with the use of advanced modelling techniques. The holistic light fitting is constructed entirely from its own compact flat-pack packaging, creating a product that—even after shipping—leaves zero waste. With a delicate pre-cut tab construction, the FILTER lamp is a simple, elegant and highly versatile lighting solution.

The prototype for the FILTER lamp was created by Bijl Architecture from cardboard and acrylic, though the studio notes that the design is thoroughly adaptable to a wood and metal structure which would enable the pendant lamp to be assembled as a floor-standing light. The simple design comes in the form of a series of pre-cut tabs which are assembled by the user, with the outer packaging to function as the shade of the lamp, which can be positioned to allow the desired amount of light. The architecture studio notes that “[b]y integrating product and packaging, the design filters out of the excesses associated with consumables, creating a quintessentially sustainable product.”
