Finalists Announced for FreeGreen Affordable Green Home Competition!

by , 03/24/10

The challenge was to develop affordable green home designs that fit contemporary lifestyles. “There are a lot of people who want a new home but don’t want a generic suburban McMansion,” FreeGreen says of the contest. “The American dream is not one size fits all. Our dreams are changing, and FreeGreen is challenging, you, the residential design community, to develop new ideas for people who don’t dream of the generic.”

Competitors were asked to choose one of two user profiles (either the “starter home” or the “not so empty nest”) and design a single family home that fits within those guidelines. All of the homes designed must be smaller than 1800 sq. ft.

This is a type of contest we should see more of! The only problem is getting it off the drawing board and into reality.
    I really like submission 1, 5, 6 and 7 (pictures as they’re represented here.)
