First Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid Test Drives To Take Place at Berlin Challenge Bibendum

The first official test drives of the Volvo V60 [5] plug-in hybrid [6] will take place next week during the Michelin Challenge Bibendum [7], a symposium on sustainable transportation for the future that this year is being hosted by Berlin. The theme of this year’s event is “Clean Safe Connected,” and will make a fitting backdrop for the rollout of Volvo’s versatile new PHEV [8].

The Volvo V60 hybrid was a collaboration between Volvo and Swedish energy supplier Vattenfall. The car can be operated in all-electric “Pure” mode, default “Hybrid” mode, or a performance-oriented “Power” mode for an all-electric range of 31 miles and a total hybrid range of 746 miles. In Power mode, the diesel engine [10] and electric motor [11] work together to provide 215 and 70 horsepower respectively and 325 and 148 pound-feet of torque, giving it what we expect will be plenty of power to keep test drivers happy.
