Five Lean, Mean, and Green Electric Vehicles at the Tokyo Motor Show

It’s almost time again for the Tokyo Motor Show, Japan’s biennial auto show that is famous for showcasing the latest and greatest concept cars. This year’s show doesn’t take place until October 24, but we’ve caught a sneak peek at some of the incredible green rides that will be on display – read on for our favorite electric vehicles from this year’s show!

1. Nissan Land Glider

This leaning concept car is tricked out with a flight deck-like dashboard — an appropriate feature for a vehicle and that glides and dips like an airplane. The whole thing is extremely compact, with room for just two passengers in the 3.6 foot-wide vehicle. No word on potential pricing, but the Nissan vehicle, which leans up to 17 degrees, will be all-electric.

2. Subaru Tourer

The hybrid Tourer concept, which is Subaru’s first attempt at building a hybrid, is powered by a lithium-ion battery, a boxer engine, and a pair of electric motors. Information on the sleek-looking car is scant, but the car will contain Subaru’s direct injection turbocharged boxer engine–a feature that is expected to be present on many future Subaru vehicles.

3. Honda EV-N

This retro concept EV from Honda is notable for one unique feature: the capacity to hold a U3-X gyroscopic electric unicycle in its passenger door frame. The EV-N also comes with a solar roof and swappable seat fabric system.

4. Honda Skydeck

Honda’s other hybrid concept vehicle, which is inspired by Honda’s Odyssey station wagon, Stream, and the CR-Z concept car, has scissor-like doors for front seat passengers and conventional doors in the back. Unlike in past Honda hybrids, the Skydeck sits in the center console along the floor. Honda is mostly remaining mum on other details, but we love the minimalist interior.

5. Mitsubishi Concept PX-MiEV

The hybrid PX-MiEV is what Mitsubishi dubs a “plug-in crossover”, meaning that it contains elements of both traditional and plug-in hybrids. The vehicle’s plug-in system lets drivers recharge at any 100 or 200 volt outlet, and EV mode can be switched on for 30 miles, with the option to switch between front wheel and four wheel drive. Mitsubishi’s hybrid is comfortable, too, with heat reflective paint and glass, individual air-conditioners, an oxygen-enriching system, and a fatigue-detecting camera that keeps drivers from snoozing.
