The FlexHubDock is a sustainable port concept developed by a group of IAAC students during their MAA 2010-2011 Emergent Territories/Ecocities Studio. FlexHubDock envisions Barcelona city 40 years from now with a port area that has been transformed into a new hub, not only for commerce and logistics, but for public gathering and play. The FlexHubDock works as a smart, shared surface that is enabled to function as both a dock for ships and a public plaza. The port can be physically transformed to fit any need at any moment, controlled via embedded sensors and a network system that receives information on space requirements required for the transition. Over the course of the day the function and shape of the FlexHubDock can change several times and even share functions, but ultimately what is created is a dynamic space with multiple uses for everyone.
