When buildings are re-imagined for an entirely new purpose, they always maintain unique and unusual remnants of their former glory. Take for example this fantastic renovation of an old gin distillery in Holland. The project is set within the heart of the old Wenneker building in Schiedam, near Rotterdam. The building's grand space has been converted into Sheidam's newest cultural center through the collaborative efforts of Confetti Reclame and design agency Vijf890.
Originally constructed in 1692, the historic building remains remarkably intact. The design team remodeled both the exterior and interior to give it a new form and an upscale design. Complete with a youth theater, cinema and cafe, the center seeks to attract a vibrant night culture and to create a cozy space for a whole host of visitors. A remarkable example of adaptive reuse, the project uses the space to its full advantage and brings new life to what was an unused gem of a site.
