Akademia Park Officium: Hungarian Military Academy Renovated Into Modern Building That Preserves the Past

We see a lot of amazing renovations here at Inhabitat, but we were particularly impressed by this former military school that has been transformed into a BREEAM excellent building by Vikar&Lukacs Architects Studio. Situated in Hungary, Akademia Park Officium is a historic building dating back to 1897 that has undergone an elegant redesign that combines classic architecture with modern flair.

Akademia Park Officium used to be just 100 meters long in its original form – an event hall and a kitchen wing were later added to the building. The Vikar&Lukacs Architects Studio redesigned the structure, demolishing these additions and bookending the original building with two modern glass wings. The glass facades line the length of the original building, while a terraced area sits adjacent. The impressive design has already received three International Property awards this year.
