The Fornebu S shopping mall, situated outside Oslo, is the first shopping mall to receive BREEAM Outstanding certification. It is part of a larger development owned by KLP Eiendom that is predicted to become a medium-sized Norwegian city by 2020. The building, designed by AMB Arkitekter, has various sustainable features, including an airtight building envelope, heat recovery systems, LED lights and 1043 square meters of solar cells.
The building houses a shopping center above which are 81 apartments. Most major surface materials used n the construction of the building are low carbon emitting. All of the material waste was reused as new materials or for energy. The actual amount of energy the building consumes is 60 percent lower compared to the regulatory level.
