Furniture designer Cliff Spencer [2]couldn’t resist when he heard about a Napa winery discarding wine-stained oak. An avid user of reclaimed materials, Spencer now regularly reclaims oak staves from California wineries and transforms them into these stunning one-of-a-kind pieces for residential and commercial use. (p.s., you don’t have to be a wine aficionado to enjoy them).

The oak, which is used by wineries during the fermentation process to flavor the wine, is naturally stained by the grapes in varying shades (pinot noir leaves the darkest stain while pinot grigio leaves the lightest). Spencer’s designs use non-toxic adhesives, recycled cores and plant-based finishes and all pieces are custom made.
