GE Gives Santa a High-Tech Green Sleigh

Santa’s sleigh has used the same old design for too long. After all, we have so many new green innovations that could streamline its flight and make Santa and the reindeer more comfortable. Enter Santa’s high-tech sleigh of the future , designed by GE.
Some of the highlights of Santa’s GE-designed sleigh: icephobic coatings to prevent ice buildup, self-powered OLED lighting for illumination at 30,000 feet, sodium batteries to store supplemental power for the sleigh, a wireless medical sensor to make sure that Santa doesn’t keel over, and sleigh blades made from ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) that enable efficient flight.
Will Santa hire GE to redesign his sleigh? Probably not, but it’s still fun to take a glimpse at some of the technologies that will be coming our way in the next few years.
